Our curriculum
Our faculty and staff hold the highest aspirations for our students.
Our faculty and staff hold the highest aspirations for our students, and possess a clear and ambitious vision for Scholar Prep Day School to ensure each child is given the opportunity to flourish and excel. We do so through a united commitment to a creative and rigorous curriculum.
Our teachers nurture individuality, and foster strong relationships across the school community. They are committed to meeting the academic, social and emotional needs of all children under their tutelage, wherever their starting points, as they progress throughout the school.
Our curriculum is designed to give all students the knowledge and skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners in readiness for their next stage of education.
Our method
Our curriculum uses a mixture of knowledge and skills based learning enabling students to build upon what they have learned, and apply this knowledge to new situations. Our curriculum is rigorously reviewed, as teachers revisit how well students have learnt new knowledge and skills, retained information, and are able to adapt for future planning.
Regular units of work begin with an inquiry and immersion day designed to capture children’s imagination about the learning ahead. We do this to encourage children’s curiosity and excitement, making learning relevant and purposeful. Educational field trips and visits from experts and members of the local community further enhance the learning experience, and bring topics to life.
Making global citizens
SPDS’s learning goals and objectives incorporate standards established by The Bahamas’ Ministry of Education, and provide the opportunity for children to contribute positively to their local, national and global communities. Children are encouraged to work collaboratively, and to be reflective and adaptable learners.
